As Salaamu Alaikum
Indeed Allah SWT says in the Quran: "Lo! We have revealed it, a Lecture in Arabic, that you may understand."
(Surah Yusuf: 2)
and
"A Scripture where of the Verses are expounded, a Lecture in Arabic for people who have Knowledge."
(Surah Fusilat: 3)
Umar RA narrated a Hadith saying "Learn Arabic for it is part of your D'in..."
Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah RA said (source: Majmoo al Fatawa): "The Salaf would admonish their children when they made Arabic grammatical mistakes. Due to this, we are ordered, whether it be an obligation or a recommendation, to preserve the Arabic laws, and to correct the tongues that have deviated from the correct speech. By doing so, we preserve the methodology of understanding the Quran and Sunnah..."
We cannot comprehend the Quran correctly, recite it beautifully, while contemplating over it's Meanings and implement it in our lives fully, unless we learn the language in which it was revealed, and consider Arabic to be the most important language to master.
Learning Arabic from an early age will give our children that advantage, insha Allah, among other tremendous benefits such as:
- Understanding what they say in their daily Salat and Dua'a, leading to improvement in their speech
- Gaining Access to information about Islam will multiply and will make their path to True Knowledge easy as they grow, Insha'Allah, as a large chunk of Classical Books on Islam is not available in English at all.
- Arabic Language can become and is, insha Allah a strong unifying force amongst Muslims
Let's remember Rasoolullah SAW when he said to us: "All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock....A woman is a shepherd over her husband's house and his children and she is responsible for them..." (Taken from a Hadith in Al-Bukhari)
It is our primary responsibility as mothers to raise our children as upright Muslims and Mu'min, Insha'Allah.
Just as it is our responsibility to keep them away from 'prohibited pastures', it is also our duty to guide them towards all the beneficial actions.
Arabic is an integral part of that D'in.
