Sayyidina 'Amr bin 'Auf رضي الله عنه narrates that
Sayyidina Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم said something to the effect: “Certainly charity increases one’s lifespan, prevents an evil
death, and Allah removes through it pride and arrogance."
How often do we spare a thought for those less fortunate than us? For someone who cannot afford a loaf of bread or a litre of milk ? For
someone who cannot afford education or school supplies? For those that don't
have clean drinking water? For someone whose home has been ravaged by war and
now has to survive in a refugee camp?
We don't feel guilty when we spend money often on takeouts and
luxury goods. But imagine if instead, you take the same amount and gave it in
charity. Say the money was used to fund a cataract operation thus helping
someone to see again. To be able to read the Qur'an again. Don't we all want
that kind of reward, Insha Allah?
There are so many benefits for giving charity. Its
something that's so easy to do and it doesn't have to be exorbitant
amounts.
There are so many great projects that could use funding. Have a
look at the Al-Imdaad or Gift of the Givers website.
And it doesn't always have to be monetary contributions. Clear
out your old or unwanted clothes that are in a good condition and give it to an
orphanage.
Contribute with your time. Volunteer at hospitals, old age homes
and orphanages. Do something positive for some - "You will never attain righteousness until you spend in
charity of what you love"
Remember the Ummah in your Dua'as.
